I am trying to create a linked server on a test win2k sql2k (with win2k sp3, sql2k sp2 and sql2kasp sp2)

For some reason, the Provider Name listbox does NOT show these two vital entries:

1. Microsoft OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services
2. Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Olap Services 8.0

It does show the data mining provider.

I have tried:

1. reinstalled SQL and all the service packs
2. reinstalling OLAP and all the service packs
3. registering the MSOLAP.DLL and MSOLAP80.DLL
4. checking the ms website and other newsgroups for info (nothing on this item)

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

thx in advance.

Note that I was able to setup another server (our live one) with OLAP and it correctly displays the OLAP providers in the list box.

p.s. Is anyone else having as much trouble with setting up OLAP for use as I have been having. It has been one pain in the butt after another. I probably could have MANUALLY summarize the 3 million data records myself using a calculator...
