Hi,

While taking a backup on tape I got following error:
Operations on device '\\.\Tape0' exceeded retry count.
Backup process terminated abnormally.

I am using this sql:
BACKUP DATABASE mydb TO TAPE='//./Tape0'
WITH NOINIT, STATS, NAME='mydb backup'

Don't understand what is wrong. Please help!

Ramesh

Hi Chad,

Thanks for reply.

But my sql server 2000 runs on the WINNT.
Is there some specific tape required for backup sql databases.

Is it necessary to stop the SQL-server for taking back-up on Tape.

Ramesh

Hi Ramesh
This can happen if you have previous NT backup on the same tape.
You might try a blank tape or format the tape before using it.
