Adrian writes "Hello.I would like to ask what your opinions are about installing SQL 2000 and SQL 7.0 on the same machine?SQL 7.0 has been in the machine for quite sometime now and we've never had a Db corrupted...however, when SQL 2000 was installed over the weekend, we've had all sorts of problems when we're trying to use SQL 7.0...everything seems to be slower, and a database was corrupted and we had to restore this Db.Could the installation of the SQL 2000 have had any effect to the efficiency and reliability of our SQL Server 7.0?thank you."

I'm assuming you installed 2000 as a named instance, if this is the case, then no, the installations are mutually exclusive. SQL 2000 doesn't touch your 7.0 DBs.-Chad

We've run SQL7 and 2000 for quite some time now on our dev and QA servers as well as some of our internal db servers as we gradually migrate all our apps to 2000 and have never had any problems. Remember that both instances will compete for server resource so make sure you set a Max Server memory for both instances. You can balance this depending on the relative loading of the two instances.HTHJasper Smith
