I recently had to reinstall SQL Server 7 on a Windows 2000 machine. When I did this, I selected "Accent-insensitive" in the Unicode Collation settings dialog. After installing and attempting to restore a database, I found that that setting had been ignored.

I then ran rebuildm to reset the settings. From the "Rebuild Master" dialog, I clicked on the "Settings..." button. I then checked "Accent-insensitive" and hit OK. When I clicked "Settings..." again, I found that checkbox remained unchecked.

Is there any reason why I can't select that as an option? I had no problems doing this before I had to reinstall.

thanks.

hi hum

check you haven't specified sort order as binary

from BOL
quote:

Sort Order
Select Sort Order options to use with the Collation Designator selected. Binary is the fastest sorting order, and is case-sensitive. If Binary is selected, the Case-sensitive, Accent-sensitive, Kana-sensitive, and Width-sensitive options are not available. For more information, see Windows Collation Sorting Styles.

Not binary. Sort order is "Dictionary order, case-insensitive, uppercase preference." It appears to only be the Unicode Collation that won't stick. If I change "Character Set" or "Sort Order," they will be retained when I hit OK and come back into Settings.

All I need is for that Accent-insensitive check box to remain checked! Truly frustrating.

Thanks.
