jc writes "I used to develop Access-applications the traditional way: using DAO building .mdb databases (front and back-end db's).
Now I want to use MSDE (which comes with MS Office 2000, version 7.00.623) and successfully transformed my back-end databases with the DTS-Wizard and made a new front-end (.adp).
The problem is if MSDE is installed on different machines with different locales, sort order and Unicode collation each time I want to attach a database I get an error stating the db could not be attached because the character code, sort order or Unicode collation differs from the server.
I've searched MSDN, Books Online and other sources on the internet but don't seem to find a solution or explanation for my problem.
It seems with MSSQL 2000 the locale and sort order and so on can be changed on the database side but not with MSDE.
Does this mean each time I want to attach a db I have to rebuild the master with a different locale...?
This surely cannot be the intention of MSSQL (what would happen if I receive a solution developed in a different country with different settings for locale, sort order and Unicode collation ?). Am I doing something wrong or is this just a limitation of MSDE ?
Upgrading is not an option because this would violate licensing limitations (I'm building my solutions with Access 2000 for machines on which Office 2000 Professional is installed).
I currently develop my solutions on a Windows 98 SE machine with Office 2000 Professional and MSDE installed. I also have a machine with Windows 2000 Professional and Office XP Developer installed (which comes with MSSQL Server 2000 Personal Edition) on which I could develop my solution.
Please help."
