Hi there,

We recently tried to install SQL service pack 4 on one of our old SQL servers (Windows NT box, service pack 6, SQL SERVER 7.0) and found that halfway through the install, we ran out of space on drive C:
The error popped up:

an error occurred during the move data process: -115

I checked to see how much space was left = 7 megs. After clearing up 200 meg of space, we tried several times but during the copying files process it would end abruptly with the same error message (but would list a different file name each time that couldnt be copied accross).

I could not find anything at microsoft site regarding these errors for SP4 but found something similiar here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B282976

which I followed its solutions but it did not apply to me (all files had the correct permissions and we were logged in as administrator to do the service pack).

I also found a post at google here:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&threadm=ZaY4tmcbCHA.1832%40cpmsftngxa09&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dfails%2BSQL%2Bservice%2Bpack%2B4%26btnG%3DGoogle%2BSearch%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8

which also did not seem to fix the problem.

The log file located in the directory C:\temp\sqlsp.log reads

01:38:57 Begin Action: ComponentMoveData
01:39:05 End Action: ComponentMoveData
01:39:05 ComponentMoveData returned: -115
01:39:11 Begin Action: Self Registration
01:39:13 End Action: Self Registration
01:39:13 MoveFileData return: -115
01:39:13 MoveFileData failed.
01:39:13 Begin CleanUpInstall
01:39:13 Installation Failed.

Any help would be appreciated greatly!!

The server is currently running fine although this SP4 was aborted several times - which confuses me as I thought once a service pack fails you have to pretty much re-install sql and all service packs?

thanks - matt
