| Curt writes "I've been reading Upgrading from SQL 7 to SQL 2000 parts 1 & 2. These articles both assume that I have 2 servers to work with. I'm in the process of upgrading our server from 7 to 2000. I only have one machine, I would like to start off with a clean install of 2000 rather than upgrade 7. What is the best approach for moving all of the logins and passwords as well as all of my DTS packages?Thanks, Curt" |

| If you want to do a clean install with only one box, you're going to have a bunch of downtime. Basically, you have to detach all your databases and copy the files to another computer, script remaining objects and write them to another computer, rebuild the server with SQL2K, and migrate everything back.You might find it easier to set up a temporary SQL server environment to hold the objects. Perhaps on a simple PC. |
