Fred Karmally writes "I got a ADSL connection (high speed) and the SQLServer 2000 service hangs up the internet with a few minutes to 2-3 hours. Resetting the modem does not help. I have to restart the computer. SQLServer service is definitely the problem since when this is not on it works fine without a glitch.Upgraded sp2 to sp3 (windows 2000 server) and fixed the memory for SQL to 300MB (1 gig on machine). When it hangs up, I get the 'connecting to website, website found .. waiting for reply ...(times out).My entire work schedule has come to a grinding halt. Any help would be MOST appreciated.Fred"

HiI would have a few suggestions here.First up, do you have the latest service packs on your sql server ? Also do you have the SQL Server firewalled off from the Internet ?One thought is that you have been hit with the slammer worm which will flood your net connection. It actually *did* pretty much stop the internet. If that is the case, fix those things - there really is no reason for a workstation to have SQL Server open to the net.Second, do you have a USB modem for your ADSL ? USB modems rely on on CPU power of the computer, and have been known to be flaky under load.If you buy an ethernet ADSL modem it may help, even better, buy one with a router in it and it solves my last point about firewalling.Damian

Yeah I would bet it is the worm. Either install service pack 3 for SQL Server or service pack 2 and the cumulative secuirty patches.Tara
