I am building a sql2000 database and I have a server with 2 145gb hard drives. The drives have been setup with Raid1(hardware mirroring). The sql database will be accessed by about 50 users daily performing writes mostly. Would it have been better to have more smaller drives than 1 big one drive, for this type of environment.

A lot of write activity benefits immensley from indepedant disks for log and data. A controller on each is optimal....

RAID 0+1 is optimal. the more spindles the better. RAID 1 is typically not recommended for Data, though it is fine for Log.
