Louie writes "On occasion our SQL server pegs out the proc because a sp has gone crazy. We recompile it (the sp) and everything is OK.

In the evenings when I'm not around, I would like for our techs to be able to send an e-mail to the sql server, with a secret code in the subject line, to have it run a sp_recompile on the troubled sp. I don't want to put the sp_recompile query in the message body in case they type it wrong. I would rather have the server watch for the "secret code" in the subject and the server will just know what to do.

Thanks"

This sounds like a very bad idea. You need to figure out why the "sp has gone crazy" and not come up with a band-aid. Why don't you post the code to the stored procedure here and we'll see if it can be optimized.
