| Hi,Assume I backed up log at 3 PM and then 3.30 PM followed by 4 PM (all separate log backup files).Also assume there are changes made to the db between 3 PM and 4 PM.If have a full backup from 2 PM then I am thinking I need to restore db using 2 PM then applying 3 PM, 3.30 and 4 PM. Isn't this true?Or can I just do 4 PM? Or can I do this only when I am backing the log and writing to the same file?I am a little confused!Sarat.**To be intoxicated is to feel sophisticated, but not be able to say it.** |

| You have to apply all transaction log backups. If you want to only restore the 4pm file, then it would have to be a differential backup.Writing to the same file is not related.Tara |

Sarat, Sarat, Sarat.... I thought I taught you this j/k  Tara is right, if you want to restore to 4:00 you apply the 2:00 full, then each TLog backup.But is something catastrophic happened at 3:58, then you could do a point in time recovery to 3:57 using the same procedure, just a bit different syntax on the lat file.-Chadhttp://www.clrsoft.comSoftware built for the Common Language Runtime. |

| You did Chad!!The space issue is killing me every minute and I am losing my mind (if i have one ;-)) , we are implementing san but I have to live in fear for next few days. It is so hard to handle the hourly log backups when i do maintenance. I hate working on weekends so i have to make sure i have enough space till monday when i get back!!thanks guys!**To be intoxicated is to feel sophisticated, but not be able to say it.** |

| Can you do less frequent transaction log backups until you get to the SAN? How many logs are you saving on disk? We save 2 days worth. If we need older than that, we go to tape to get them.Tara |

| Sarat If you Shrink your database or log file maybe your backups will be smaller |

| gercr, your transaction log backup files will be the same size regardless. The database size would shrink, but that wouldn't affect the transaction log file sizes.Tara |

| Tara, the transaction log will not affect if are setup to auto grow? I meat, the transaction log(t-log) can be as small as the was defined went DB was created, and if the t-log was defined like 5 mb and actually grow to 100 mb and I truncate this log and shrink this will affect the actual size of t-log file, correct or I am really lost???Thanks for the future explain! :) |

| We're talking backups, not the size of the MDF or LDF files. We're talking about the size of the TRN files.Tara |
