Allocate a new log file - alter database add log file (if you don't already have another one).

shrink the old one with emptyfile
alter database to remove

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

You should not perform this kind of database maintenance while users are connected to the database. Also, make sure that you have a full backup of your database prior to the work.

More outsourcing = more questions, doesn't really matter which country. Actually, it should be:

More outsourcing to save money = More outsource firms hiring inexperienced people who work for less, do a worse job, and take longer to do it

The question is, when we answer questions from Indian's, are we training them to replace us?

One reason my post count isn't higher is because I choose not to respond to questions from "outsourced" folks. I don't have a problem with India's or Pakistai's etc (I know one of each, both great guys) but I do have a problem getting replaced by someone with less talent that will do a job for waaay less than I will and produce something inferior to what I would produce.

I say hire the best and produce the best. That's how companies will get ahead. You get what you pay for.

OK, here is a moral dilemma for you.

Do you choose not to buy a pair of Nikes, Levis, clothes from Old Navy etc etc because those clothes have taken jobs from American garment workers ?

Outsourcing has been going on for years in the name of a global marketplace. A lot of the people now crying foul (and this isn't an attack on you Michael, just an observation) have been huge financial supporters of "outsourcing". It's just that now it's time for I.T. to have a turn on the "New World Order" roundabout.

I have seen outsourcing called all sorts of things on various programming forums, including "Un-American". It's an ironic twist that could see a lot of technology workers alongside people they once called "stupid feral hippie communists" at the next WTO talks.

OK Micheal ...
I do not actually mean to start any flame wars over here ... but this is to simply express my feelings over the words quoted above. Should I change over and build my own SQL Server Forum so that I can choose to respond to questions from my country only ... We are here to share knowledge knowledge ... not to discriminate. Do you think we do not live in fear of our being replaced by someone else ? There is always someone who will do the same job at a lesser price. Its only a question of "How low would your company go low in Quality ?". You will find Indian & Pakistani DBA's being paid almost in the your range for the same work by companies who want quality work and dont mind paying for it, and these are some professionals I respect and have learned from a lot. So its just a matter of believing in yourself and about doing the best in the circumstances you are in.

Attitude is everything

that is a pretty ugly sentiment. Don't blame these guys for taking jobs that they are offered. Blame the companies that offshore the work.

The people that take these outsourced positions are making a fortune in their native country, even though they get paid around 10 - 20% of what you and I make. If you lived in india, or russia, or wherever you'd be a fool to not take an outsourced technical position that comes your way. They are looking out for themselves, just like you and I do.

I do not feel the role of these forums is to selectively pick and choose who to help and who to not help. Questions are simply asked and answered here, regardless of their source.
