J writes "Hi,I have installed MS SQL 2000. I tried installing Pivot Table Service - PTFull.exe and got the message "Cannot install, Analysis Service already installed". How can I verify if Pivot Table Service is installed? I do not see any services running under the name Pivot Table Service. Do I need to install SP3a for MS SQL 2000.Thanks,JVora" |

Sorry this took a while to answer-- I've been busy with my move to New Orleans (anyone know of an OLAP job for me there?)You can't install Pivot Table Services on a machine that has Analysis Services installed-- it already has them."Pivot Table Service" is a misnomer-- it doesn't execute as a service. It basically is a set of DLLs that let you access MS Analysis Services cubes from Excel. If you have the option of accessing OLAP cubes from External Data in Pivot Tables in Excel, you have PTS.*YES* you should install SP 3a. Without it, performance of Analysis Services is horrible. Your clients should all have the PTSFull installed as well (thouse who don't have Analysis Services installed of course). If you are in doubt as to whether a client has PTSFull installed, just install it. It won't hurt to install it twice.--Timothy Chen Allenemail me if you have a job in New Orleans for mehttp://www.timallen.org |
