You don't change any of their "parameters", as these files are handled by SQL Server automatically. You can set up filegroups to distribute data across multiple drives and files, which can increase performance. Without more information on your database though, it will be difficult to provide a more detailed answer. Can you post more information on how many tables you have, how much data is in them, and what kind of application your database is supporting?
