Hi,

I believe that database diagrams can only be created by members of the sa or dbo role. Is that correct? I need to verify because I have a group of developers needing to create a diagram on a production server and they are unable to. The best I can determine is it's a permissions-related issue.

Then I'd say your security is working well. Developers really have no business on your production system. If they want to make a DB diagram, script the database for them and have them put iton a developer box and build the diagram there.

Our developers can't even get into the production server room, let alone log into production. If they need to look at the data or troubleshoot anything, a DBA logs them into the system and watches everything that they do. The developers can log into production through the application like any other users just not directly into the servers.

Hell I am the DBA and I can't even get into the server room without stopping off at the security office first. :)

You should see our server room. Due to homeland security initiatives, I have to pass through 3 separate doors. The first door we call the teleporter. It's a man hole that allows one person at a time. You swipe your card. Glass doors open. You get inside but can't go anywhere cuz there are doors directly in front of you now. The doors close behind you and then the doors in front of you open up. I don't know what the second door is for. The third door is the actual server room. All 3 doors require you to swipe your card. The first one is observed by security.
