Ok. The default setting is 255. I have read that increasing this number will take up more physical RAM on the server. I have also read that the number should typically be set to #max connections + 5. My questions are as follows:

1. Does lowering this number free up RAM or other resources? (If you only have a 25 seat license) The servers that we have are open licenses (per server not per seat) and typically have anywhere from a max of 180-280 connections at a given time.

2. How much of a performance increase does a typical box get from toying with this setting?

Any input about the Worker threads setting is greatly thanked.

Thanks,
TheNewDBA
