Besides Enterprise Mangager for SQL Server 2000 what other mgmt tools are there. I'm looking for something that simplify mgmt and to point of recovery.

Thanks.

Well, there's Query Analyzer and SQL Profiler that are installed when you install the SQL client tools. Are you looking for 3rd party tools? If so, I highly recommend SQL Compare by Red-Gate.

Looking for 3rd party tools. Especially for mgmt e.g. recovery and backup.

3rd party tools for recovery and backup! So BACKUP/RESTORE T-SQL commands is not adequate?

This is probably the most important aspect of the system so you should make it as simple as possible i.e. don't involve applications that may introduce bugs and shield the staff from what is really happening.

Stick to backup/restore commands as Tara says.
And don't assume that just because a backup completes successfully that you have a restorable file. That applies to the backup command and even more so to any appplication that does it.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

A backup / backup scheme that is not tested, is not a backup.
If you don't that that backup file and restore it someplace and check it out, how do you know if you can restore it when you REALLY need it??

I'm with everyone here in saying that you should use EM or QA to handle your backups. If you have some sort of issue, you can call MS and they will resolve your problem no matter what. Can you say that about a $50 piece of 3rd party software?? Usually not.

They do, and their tools are great. Having said that, for backups and restores just stick to the basics. BACKUP/RESTORE. It's hard to beat them, especially for the price.
