Hey all, I currently use SQL Server locally on machine to set up all the db's and transfer data so we can go live with sql server some time next month... My dedicated server is in the post along with my full software instead of the evaluation... All I wanted to know was has anyone had any problems when installing sp3a on sql server? Also I have heard rumours that XPSP2 creates problems connecting to sql server (client wise) due to the firewall... I know everything in IT is unique but im sure im not the only one who needs this info so if anyone has any experiences that they are willing to share it would be much appreciated. Regards,PACE |

| We haven't had any trouble using sp3a at all. I would make sure you have the following patches:SQL Server SP3aMDAC 2.7 SP1 Refresh (If you are using MDAC 2.7)Latest Windows Service PackMS03-031 (I think that's the right number. It's the patch that brings SQL Server to .818)You need to test for a week, but these are what everyone should be at.MeanOldDBAderrickleggett@hotmail.comWhen life gives you a lemon, fire the DBA. |

| Service pack 3a has a DTS bug in it, but security patch 818 fixes it.The XPSP2 thing is only if the SQL Server is running on an XP and users need to connect to it. Typically, SQL Server is only installed on XP for a developer and no one else connects to it. So you are fine in this scenario. And also typically, SQL Server is not installed on XP for production, test, QA, performance, etc... environments so you shouldn't run into a problem either. The client machines can be XP.Tara |

we do have clients with xp but not with sp2, i believe it's still beta, and anything beta, IMHO, must be approached with caution and not for production...editnot to scare you, but had some trouble with the patch on my laptop, had to reinstall |

| The clients running XP SP2 should not have problems when connecting to the SQL Server unless the OS of the SQL Server is XP and has SP2 installed.Tara |
