Hi,I have been tasked with beta testing sql'05 for our company. Starting with beta2 and continuing until the full release, I'll be spear heading the project. I've never been in a beta testing arena before and wanted to know everyone's opinion on general process steps. Should I treat it as any other normal new install or are there certain areas you like to test more heavily? Are there areas you place more emphisis on than others? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

First of all always assume you will have to rebuild the machine. It probably won't uninstall for the next release.Assume that for a major release it will have problems up to at least sp2 which may make it unusable (see v6, v7).Apart from that it's just a matter of looking at the differences - divide into two categories - those you are forced to use and those you would like to. Try to keep changes separate so you can test against the previous version and keep a record of everything you do.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.

Thanks Nigel. I had figured I'd be rebuilding, but it makes sense to track betas and service pack differences. I appreciate the response.-J
