Is it ok to have default option of auto update statistics enough.Also what does mean RANGE_HI_KEY mean.I quite didnt understand the defn provided by BOL.Can someone please explain

Pay attention to the first article and the last few paragraphs of the second one. You should understand it pretty well after reading these articles. FYI, there are some really good free video tutorials on the Microsoft website about SQL Server indexing. I would definitely look at those if I were you.
