Sorry if this sounds stupid...

Is it possible to read the log file or the log file is only used by the system for back up purposes ?

Thanks!

Igor.

You will need a third party tool such as Lumigent's Log Explorer to read the tlog.

yeah Tara, I realized that after a research...

Could you guys rate what you guys have tried? It's Apex good ? I need something that goes deep in the details of Schema changes more than data changes.

Thanks in advance!

Igor.

I've actually never had to use these tools before.

But why do you need to track the schema changes? How many different people are able to do this? Are non-DBAs making db schema changes?

It's a long story, that even gets a little political in the company that I work for, we had (as of this morning) a few employess with Admin access and I had 3 jobs that failed this morning, due to a table change Friday, and we can't tell who did the changes, we need to buy one of these tools...

Thanks!

Igor.

If I were you, I'd be running SQL Profiler then to capture this.

yap, Apex is good, it has saved me some thousands of records that were "accidentally" deleted by some programmer.

their techsupport is nice too, very courteous and accomodating

Lumigent Log Explorer works great as well, provided you have the recovery mode set to full. It's pretty simple to use, and they have a trial copy for download.
