No. YOu cannot recover from the .ldf file alone. You need to have a backup to restore if you have lost the .mdf file.

Well yes you can, but you'll need a third party tool such as Lumigent's Log Explorer to read the tlog.

If the database is set to full recovery mode. Since you don't have a backup, you might have left it in full recovery mode on accident.
