What are the recommended methods of managing error log recycles? I just encountered a log that was only 4M in size but it took longer than expected to open. The log was last recycled a year ago. I'm thinking of creating a job that recycles the error log every 2 months, but I want to see if there are better methods out there.

Thanks,
Ray

I use a job to recycle the error log once per week by running the following command:

dbcc errorlog

or

exec sp_cycle_errorlog

I try to limit the size so that it doesn't take a long time to pull up when there is a problem. If there is a problem, I don't want to wait five minutes to load the log.
