| Hi all, Suppose I am installing SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition (with service pack 3a) on a Windows 2000 server. Does SQL Server RECOMMEND using Windows 2000 Service Pack 4? This is because the application vendor did not certify using service pack 4 of Windows 2000. It only recommends using W2K Service Pack 3. I searched from Microsoft and there seems no specific information on this. Many thanks, delpiero |

| I have several Win2K servers on SP4 running SQL Server 2000, no problems at all. Since SP4 has been out for quite a while now without any major problems reported, I'd recommend you apply it. Microsoft always recommends the latest service packs for all their software, and they've all been rock solid in my experience.I would not be too concerned about your application vendor's hesitation. Unless they wrote the app using undocumented features, you should not have a problem. And if you do, then I'd recommend never dealing with that vendor again. |

| Thanks for your advice.I have another related issue. If I plan to use Reporting Services for my SQL Server in the future, do I need to use SQL Server Enterprise Edition if I plan to use Reporting Services Enterprise Edition? That is, can I use Reporting Services Enterprise Edition on SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition? Thanks, delpiero |

Well, sort of. If you install it on a seperate server and basically pay for SQL Server Enterprise Edition on that server. That's probably not the answer you wanted to hear. Otherwise, the answer is no.Also, I agree with Rob (usually ). Apply the service pack. I haven't had any issues with it and highly recommend you do so immediately. Test on the development servers first of course.MeanOldDBAderrickleggett@hotmail.comWhen life gives you a lemon, fire the DBA. |
