Joshua writes "We're using the BACKUP command to run a full backup on our 100Gb DB every day. The backup is being directed to a disk drive. We reboot the DB server every Sunday night, and the farther we get into the week the longer the backup takes. Sunday, Monday nights it takes ~1 1/2 hours, but by Thursday and Friday the backup runs 3+ hours. NT Perfmon is showing the following:
SQL Server Backup throughput goes to 0 for a period (1hour+) on the 3+ hour backup nights Backup device: For 3+ hour nights looks normal at first, then there are high write counts, even when SQL Server backup throughput is at 0. There is nothing else that is on the backup device. It is only used for SQL Server backups.
Versions: SQL Server V7.0 SP2 NT: V4.0 SP5" |
