Can anybody recommend a SQL Server auditing tool, particularly one that monitors and records data changes (inserts, updates, deletes), logins, and other kinds of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance issues? It would be preferrable if this tool did not use triggers or other such things that cause too much DB overhead, and of course if it came with a decent set of built-in reports (as well as customizable ones). I saw a thread about a similar topic on this forum last year, but I was wondering if there was anything new since then.

I can't recommend the product because I have never used it, but idera has a tool that sounds like it might fit your requirements. I have been pretty happy with idera products in the past, so hopefully this one lives up to that.http://www.idera.com/Products/SQLcm/Default.aspxI'm sure you could arrange a dog and pony show with them to see if it will work for you. -ec

Lumigent also has an auditing product called Entegra that they've touted as a SOX compliance tool:http://www.lumigent.com/They will also do the show-and-tell if you contact them. Also check your local SQL user groups, they did one in Atlanta 3-4 months ago that was pretty good.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your responses. Personally, I think that it's this kind of advice (product recommendations) on these forums that's more valuable than anything else. As I'm sure everyone knows, nothing can tarnish your reputation in your company faster or worse than endorsing a bad product. You'll forever be known as the guy who recommended sinking thousands of dollars into WeOnlyUseCursors, Inc., or whatever it may be.
