Hello everyone,

I am designing an analysis product that imports about 0.5 GB rows from a text file into a database and then chews on this data to produce reports and graphs. Besides the client-server web-based piece, my customer has requested that I also create a stand-alone version of the product which would run on a person's laptop. Will MSDE be suitable for this purpose?

I've read vague statements that said things like "MSDE is the equivalent of MS Access 2000" and "MSDE does not support full-fledged stored procedures", so I'm kinda sceptical..

HELP PLEASE!!!

MSDE is fine for this, and yes it does support stored procs.
I have a client that runs some intranet web apps off a MSDE installation.

well, MSDE does have limitations but they aren't the ones you mention. Here are the top ones i can think of:

1. No graphical management tools (EM, QA, profiler, etc.)
2. 2GB database file size limit
3. 2GB RAM limit
4. workload governor

There are other limitations too. Check the microsoft website on msde for more info.
