| I created a weekly maintenance plan that udpdates statistics every Sunday. Today the DB was performing very slowly and timing out often and in our setup, we've found that usually means the stats haven't been updated. I ran sp_updatestats and it sped up right away. So either sqlmaint is doing the stats update differently than sp_updatestats or it simply wasn't being run often enough. Is there any different in the stats updating of these two commands?EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_sqlmaint N'-PlanID 8BA3F5A4-8E99-454D-B857-78C8F515C0CE -Rpt "d:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\LOG\DB Maintenance Plan10.txt" -DelTxtRpt 6MONTHS -WriteHistory -UpdOptiStats 10 'vsexec sp_updatestats |

| I tend to stay away from maintenance plans and favor setting up my own maintenance jobs that run the various commands. Allows for finer control and it is easier to figure things out when things go wrong.Sean RoussyPlease backup all of your databases including master, msdb and model on a regular basis. I am tired of telling people they are screwed. The job you save may be your own.I am available for consulting work. Just email me though the forum. |
