I am using virtual pc to run windows server 2003 to present a asp.net application to a large number of people. My problem is Im trying to access the sql server on my windows xp pro computer using ip on the same computer so i odnt have to set up sql sever again the virtual pc windows server system. I cannot get my applications from my windows server to connect to the sql database.

I went to Client Network Utility and the tcp/ip was enabled, I tried pinging the computer that has the sql server on it and that was successfull. Also, I checked online and it says that in the current sql server log it should say listening on tcp/ip but mine just says "SQL server listening on Shared Memory, Named Pipes, Rpc." and it has another entry that says "SQL Server is ready for client connections". So does this mean that its not set up correct for tcp/ip connections? Any ideas what else I can do? I dont have the service packs installed because looking at the instructions to run them I didnt want to mess with it, does this matter if i have the sever 2000 updated with service packs are not ?

Im hopeing someone on this forum can help me out cause my other forums I usually use dont have many sql knowledged people. Also please note I am a programmer and not a networker so I dont have much experience or knowledge with setting this sorda thing up.

Thanks allot hope someone can help me
