Jim writes "I'm running a test lab/maintenance operation for our product based on SQL Server 7. We manage a number of test/maintenance environments using Norton Ghost. At times it is necessary to the change the name of a computer in order to get machines cloned from the same ghost image on the network. The problem is that SQL 7 doesn't like to have the computer name changed. An uninstall/reinstall of SQL 7 seems to be the only solution. Is there a way to change the name of the computer and not corrupt the SQL 7 install? Or some way to patch SQL 7 so that it can work with the new computer name? I've searched the registry and changed all references to the old computer name to the new name, but still no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim Warner" |
