Hi,

How do I create a new instance for SQL Express? Also the machine also has MSDE Installed if that should be taken into consideration.

Thanks.

You just run setup.exe and specify a new instance name.

Do you have specific questions as to the installation?

Thanks for the response.

Where do I get this setup.exe? The only file that I get from the microsoft website is "SQLEXPR.EXE". For MSDE I ran the setup.exe but can't find this file for SQL Express.

SQLEXPR.EXE is probably the compressed file. Whatever you downloaded from their site, you will need to double click on. It might launch the actual setup or you may need to look for it in the directory that you specified to extract the files to.

The SQLEXPR.EXE should be explained in detail on the MS site on the page where you downloaded it. Check the instructions.

It launched the setup automatically but I'm afraid to override the current installation (another database is there) b/c it was behaving as an actual new installation, I just want to create a New Instance to it. Maybe I just need to go forward with the installation and it automatically knows that there's one there already, leaves it alone and guides me to create a new instance?

All the things that I've read doing searches on the net is creating a new instance at installation, I haven't found anything post-installation.

Thanks.

Yes. In the installation you tell it the new instance name.

Thanks again,

One last question just to make sure. This will not try to upgrade an existing msde installation, right?

As long as you answer the installation questions correctly.
