If you have a licence for SQL 2000 and have the cd should it come along with it as a 2nd cd. Also i don't have direct access to the Server can i use the client pc to build my reports ? via some client software. Do i need to buy client s/w ? or does it come alonmg with the reporting services ?One of the reason i currently use excel for my reporting front end is that it allows multiple values as filtes on the pivot table, is this functionality in reporting services we do have crystal and it only allows one filter for a report... |

I don't have VISUAL STUDIO, all i have at the moment is a SQL server and Excel. We do have crystal but the server is in the US and has to go through 3 routers which is very slow on returning the data even though the SQL server is on our side... Am thinking because we have SQL server 2000 we can get SQL reporting services along with it, and i can try and do a few report on it to see how they can handle the large amount of data and we'd also need them to have top filters on the single report like you can have with excel. |

SQL Server 2005 comes pre packed on the same cd with Reporting Services 2000. However, SQL Server 2000 does not have RS pre loaded on the CD. It comes on a seperate orange cd that says Reporting Services. You can use it for free if and only if you run it on the same server as your sql server 2k box, however this is not recommended as too many transactions and queries can severe performance of that box.Otherwise for a flat fee of $200 USD you can license a copy to place on a reporting server box (preferred method). You cant beat that price. Keeping the web experience alive -- http://www.web-impulse.comRS Blog -- http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/jhermiz |
