Michael writes "We are running SQL and Veritas to backup the databases. Supposedly the SQL agent in Veritas, after a full backup, truncates the log files but for some reason this isn't happening... any ideas?"

I think you are mistaken about what it is supposed to do. The normal way to do handle transaction logs is to back them up on a regular basis, say every 15 minutes. Otherwise, there would be no point in having the database in full recovery mode.CODO ERGO SUM

Have veritas backup the log file every 15 mins? Or have the built in SQL backup, backup the logs every 15 mins?I was looking into having SQL do it's own backup, THEN having veritas backup that file... Does that sound like a better way? And if so how do you schedule backups within SQL? All I see for options within the builtin SQL database backup solution is to run a backup, I don't see options for ongoing scheduling...

I prefer to backup to disk, and then backup those files to tape. Please refer to my remarks in this thread for why you should do that:http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=51150You can schedule SQL Server backups by creating SQL Server Agent Jobs. You can also schedule backups with a Maintenance Plan. You can read about both in SQL Server Books Online.CODO ERGO SUM
