Does anyone know why Master is still at Compatibility Level 80 after an upgrade from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005?

That just isn't possible. If the server is SQL Server 2005, then master's compatibility leve is 90. Only user databases can have a lower compatibility level.Tara Kizer

We upgraded a SQL 2000 server and all of the system databases were changed from 80 to 90 except Master.

What do you mean when you say upgrade? Didn't you install a new 2005 instance?Tara Kizer

We upgraded the SQL 2000 instance to 2005. We did not uninstall 2000. Looking at others that we have upgraded, it is the same. Master shows 80 but the others are 90.

I've never done an upgrade that way. We've always used a new server or just installed 2005 next to 2000.Tara Kizer

We changed it with the system idle. No problem noted. I thought it was kind of strange it did the rest of the system DBs and not Master.
