Brian writes "Hello,

I have a SQL 2005 server running on Windows 2003.

I have successfully rename the server using the standard methods including using:

sp_dropserver 'OLD_NAME\SQL2005'

sp_addserver 'NEW_NAME\SQL2005',local, 'duplicate_ok'

Yes, I have a named instance on this box.

My Question
How can I get @@servername to return the new name of the server? I keep getting the old name when I try select @@servername. FYI: Select SERVERPROPERTY('MachineName'), SERVERPROPERTY('InstanceName') display the new(correct) names.

Thank you.
P.S. Please email the location of the answer or better yet the answer you are posting. Thanks"
