Hi Experts,

In SQL 2000, we have SQL Client which is used to access remote sql servers. What is there in SQL server 2005? I just want to install a client and not a server on my local boxes to access remote server.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Sachin

Thanks Chriag and Kh.

Chirag,

Microsoft says that, If I download SQL server management studio express, I won't be able to manage SQL Server Analysis Services, Integration Services, Notification Services, Reporting Services, SQL Server Agent, or SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition.

How can I do this for a remote server then?

KH,

I think SQL native client is set of liberaries for SQL OLE DB provider and SQL ODBC driver and does not have any interface.

Please let me know if I am wrong.

Thanks
Sachin

Sorry. Thought you were referring to the client connectivity

What ver of SQl 2005 are you using ? If you are using standard or enterprise, the SSMS comes with the CD. Just install that.

I have successfully installed SQL SERVER Mangement Studio express. But I am not able to connect to remote SQL server 2005 database server (Developer edition).

Do I need to change some settings on SQL server 2005 database server? Any Surface area settings?

Thanks
Sachin

i don't think you can use SSMS express to manage SS2005. Why not install the one from the SS2005 Developer Edition CD ?

Yes. You do need to configure Surface Area to allow remote connection.
