Hi all,

I'm in need of a source control system that integrates with the Management Studio so that every time i want to modify a table, view, procedure etc I have to check it out from the object explorer and then check it back in again. I have used Visual Source Safe before but never with a database...is it fully integrated with SSMS? What can I do to make this work as smoothly as possible?

Is there any other IDE that handles this better than SSMS?

this isn't possible AFAIK.

maybe you shoul dlook here and see if this is supported.
http://www.apexsql.com/sql_tools_dev_studio.asp

when you checkout a script you can change it and run it independently of source control anyway you like.
then you check it back in.

If you want to have to check out the script everytime you press F5 then this isn't possible.

Thanx spirit, I actually downloaded the demo version of ApexSQL Edit yesterday but I haven't gotten very far in testing it. However it seems that we have something called Surround SCM which is beeing used in another part of the company that I'm about to set up. It's not integrated with SSMS at all but as long as I get the source control with versioning I guess it'll work out for me. It would be nice to have it as an integrated part of SSMS though...

working on it

but you'd really have to specify how you'd like this to work.
can you do that?
