| Anyone got a link with examples or an explanation on how to build a warehouse, cubes or martsI'm googling, but I'm not finding any sql examples.Can anyone here post some samples or explanations?I mean I guess I've been doing it all manually, but was wondering about the Analysis tools..but was looking for feedbackBrett8-)Hint: Want your questions answered fast? | If you install Analysis Services along with the samples, then you will be able to see examples. I've never touched it though, but typically the MS SQL samples are pretty good.Tara Kizer |

| Mosha is an authority on this, I think he wrote the beast, mostly...http://www.mosha.com/msolap/http://www.sqljunkies.com/WebLog/mosha/But the lack of olap resources (Analysis Services) is astounding!Great Product, but you will need a good client app to leverage the power.And imo SQL2000 was great, SQL2005 went through too many committies to be "usable" <- Edit meaning Analysis Services...It's probably a great engine, but it was built around the same crappy concepts as Reporting Services and Integration Services.For agrregation queries, olap is so much faster than sql.The other way round sql is so much better for detail queries.But there is no mystery about DW, it's all about the data, it needs to be stored in some way.A well designed database is the key to everything.The rest is technology on how to retreive the data.Olap is the most powerful analytical "cache" I ever had the pleasure to deal with.And designing good cube models is a science in itself, just as the science in how to store tha data.rockmoose |
