The "new" SP2 has version number 9.00.3050.00.
Quite a step from "old" SP2 version number 9.00.3042.00

Actually i downloaded and install from here

@@version still gives me 9.00.3042 and even that link state the version as 9.00.3042.

So kind of confusing weather i have installed the SP2 with or without the hotfix.

Is it just me, or has the release of SP2 been a bit of a muddle?

It seemed that there have been 3 releases, fixing some things - or was that jsut whilst it was in public Beta?

Since it was officially released, there has been only one update.

I stay away from Betas except for major releases, such as Yukon.

"there has been only one update"

IMO it should have been called SP2a to lessen the confusion

Does that mean you have installed SP1 on your Production server?
I've not applied SP1 or SP2 to Dev/Test/Live yet. Is it time? Any major benefits?
Or shall I not fix what isn't broken?

We didn't upgrade any databases to 2005 until service pack 1 was released. Typically the RTM version has a lot of bugs that need to be worked out, so a lot of people wait for the first service pack.

So yes we have sp1 installed in production.

This wasn't a beta, it was an improperly tested full release. If you read the details here:
http://blogs.sqlserverclub.com/?p=19
, you'll see it's pretty unforgiveable what MS have dropped into our laps.
Same advice as always - never install until it's been out six months.
Jim.
