Hi,

Ive got a SQl2005 Express server which doesnt appear on the network as an sql box. Im able to ping the server without any issues but when I try to attach to the server by using Connect option on the SMSE installed on my machine, I see my other sql 2005 express boxes and my sql2000 box but I cannot see my new SQL2005 Express box.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Try type instance name in then connect, may have service broadcasting issue on the network.

Is SQL Browser Enabled on the server?
Have you enabled TCP/IP on the server?
Have you created exceptions for SQl Server and SQl Browser in your firewall?

Ok, Ive enabled the browser and I can now see the server in my drop down list. Slightly odd mind since I didnt enable the browser service on my other boxes??

Thanks Mike

You can connect to it locally if browser service is not running.

Ok, the plot thickens! Im now able to see the server in the drop down menus but Im not able to connect due to error: [DBNETLIB]Connection Open (Connect()).]Sql Server does not exisit or access denied.
I get this error message when I try to connect to the box using Crytal Reports V8. If I carry out the same process on the SQL box itself using crystal reports, Im able to connect to the database without any issues.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks
