Hi I'm very novice when it comes to SQL Server Administration. I have been asked if the SQL Server Log can trace information on whether data supplied to an individual has been tampered with, or if it is the full data set provided.Apologies for this vague description, but that is what I have to go on also.I am trying to find an article which details what the purpose of SQL Server logs are and if I can extract this sort of information from them.Any idea if the SQL server log can provide tracing/editing/exporting information? Thanks!!

SQL Server doesn't deliver data - a client does that. Any tampering would be done by that client so sql server logs wouldn't help. You can audit trail all changes to data held on the server and log queries that access it (via the profiler) but what happens after that is nothing to do with the database.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.

So, if Profiler has not been run when the data was edited/transferred then there would be no record of any activity?

Nope.If you have the transaction logs then you can get a product to view the updates made to the data in the database - see redgate log explorer.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.

Use third party tools like Lumigent's Log Explorer.
