We have just recently moved DC andthe new DC did the installation of SQL 2005 along with putting in place some backup schedules.

now the procs being called and used i am not able to see as they are encrypted.

However the maintenacne that has been setup is a Full DB backup 1 a week. Diff backups nightly with tlog backups every 15 mins

Now i know that 2005 has included the FTC into the backups.

my problem is that the Diff backup of our prod DB which has 3 Catalogs on it is taking an age to complete.

having a lookat the activity monitor i have noticed that this has a wait type of MSSearch. Now this is causing blocking on other objects and as such leading to increases in the number of connections being put to the DB server from the app. Also leading to timeouts occurring due to the blocking that is occuring.

can anyone explain to me why with the inclusion of the FTC into the backup that this differential is taking so long.

to give you an idea the full backup took like 17-18 minutes. the diff has been running for over 2 hours with an ever increasing wait time.

Any assistance on this is greatly appreciated.

Thx
