Chuck writes "Please share your "Update to SQL Server 2000 from SQL Server 7" gotchas with me:

I have to update my SQL Server 7 [@@version: 7.00.961 (Intel X86)] database server to SQL Server 2000. The total size of all my primary filegroups is approx 232,300 MB and the total size of all the transaction logs is 2,4000 MB. I have 18 user databases. The largest is about 160GB. The OS is Windows NT 4.0 (Build 1381: Service Pack 6)].

I have received an estimate from a source we will all agree is very reliable that the upgrade to 2000 will only take one hour. Growing up with Sybase, and living through some horrific upgrades of my own in the past, I can not make myself believe this.

I would like to hear from anyone who went through an upgrade of SQL Server 7 to SQL Server 2000 with user databases that were non-trivial in size.

How large are your databases? How long did it take you to upgrade to 2000 from SQL 7? What OS are you using? How would you say the upgrade went overall? What happened that you did not expect? What would you do differently that you did not do when you upgraded? General advice and wisdom? Any question(s) I didn't ask but should have and the answer to it?"
