I want to enable access to an instance of SQL Server 2005 for a sql server login only from certain servers.

Based on what I've looked up I was under the impression I could do this by creating my own certificate. Setting ForceEncryption = Yes under Protocal Properties for my instance and under the Certificate tab setting the certificate to the one I had created.
Basically the steps in this article - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316898

My problem is that after setting up the certificate on the server I can still access that SQL instance without setting up the certificate on the client side. It's as if I didn't set up any certificates at all.

Am I missing something? or am i misunderstanding what certificates can do for me.

Thanks,

Nam
