I've only just discovered this!  Shame on me.So this is the future? 268 thousand times more space without the headache of text columns (and not being able to use them as parameter types for long csv's) are finally a thing of the past? Could it be? http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=66929I only discovered it because I ran into a problem trying to create a trigger and so then I learnt that:"SQL Server 2005 does not allow for text, ntext, or image column references in the inserted and deleted tables for AFTER triggers. However, these data types are included for backward compatibility purposes only. The preferred storage for large data is to use the varchar(max), nvarchar(max), and varbinary(max) data types. Both AFTER and INSTEAD OF triggers support varchar(max), nvarchar(max), and varbinary(max) data in the inserted and deleted tables."http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191300.aspxHas anyone experienced any problems converting over from text to varchar(max)? |
