I've seen a few threads on this which seem to suppose the problem is on Express edition rather than Standard edition. Not so here. This is definitely Standard edition, SP3 as seen by running SELECT CONVERT(char(20), SERVERPROPERTY('Edition')) SELECT CONVERT(char(20), SERVERPROPERTY('ProductLevel'))In SSMSUnder the Management folder there is no "Maintenance Plans" folder. There IS a "Maintenance Plans" folder under the Legacy Folder.I have another instance which is Standard and SP1 which looks just fine.

when you start it up the splash screen says SSMS Expressit's probably a bug. don't know if it could be a permissions issue, though..._______________________________________________Causing trouble since 1980blog: http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/mladenp

In SSMS, Help/About gives a window that says at the top:About Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. It says, Windows Server SystemIt says SQL Server 2005Table with "Component Name" and "Versions" columns. In this table, the version for Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is 9.00.1399.00Then some warning verbage and an OK button.Nothing about the Edition. No "Express". No "Standard"

This must be the deal.Although this is SQL 2005, The databases areall at compatability level of SQL2000, SP3.That probably explains why the "Maintenance Plans" folderis displayed under the "Legacy" folder, rather than underthe "Management" folder.

You are probably connecting to a SQL Server 2000 database engine. The usual 'Maintenance Plans' folder will not show up, and there will be other small differences you may notice, like 'Properties' will list slightly less information. Try connecting to a known SQL Server 2005 database engine instance, and the Maintenance Plan folder should now be visible. It's not a matter of your version of SSMS, it's a matter of the version of database engine. To create a maintenance plan on your SQL Server 2000 DB engine, check if the old SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager is installed on the machine and do it through there.Hope that helped :DAndy Boydwww.siliconrockstar.com
