| Does anyone use TOAD? I liked it when I was using Oracle. It was a lot nicer that command-line. Does anyone take the time to get used to the GUI? |

| I've used TOAD on Oracle.I use Query Analyser (the MS tool which came with SQL Server 2000) which is somewhat similar. You basically type SQL syntax code, but there are GUI tools to find objects, provide lists of columns, create code using templates etc.All this GUI stuff in SQL 2005 just slows me down ...Kristen |

| The people who rave about TOAD are the Oracle DBAs whose other choice is to use the god-awful JAVA apps supplied by Oracle. Compared to those, TOAD is fantastic. But people who have used SQL Server's utilities (yes, even the GUIs) are left unimpressed by TOAD.e4 d5 xd5 Nf6 |

I thought TOAD was in second-place compared to Query Analyser. But then I use QA every day, 8 hours or more a day, and I've used Toad for a total of just a few hours scattered over a couple of years.Having said that there have been high spots. Its seems to get data progressively. In QA I would never doSELECT * FROM MyMegaBigTablebut Toad was quite happy with that, displayed a handful of rows, and seemed quite happy for me to scroll the output list. And its Free. But the scary thing, as MVJ pointed out, is that my Oracle clients use it. So they are using an also-ran Freebie product instead of the tools provided with their $n00,000 licence-fee Oracle database Kristen |
