According to this http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/features/compare-features.mspx
you need SQL Server Express WITH ADVANCED SERVICES.

I'm using SQL Server Express with Advanced Services on this site to search the forums and it works just fine. What problem are you having?

anything I put into the database after I create the index and catalog is not being updated. If I search on a term that should come up it doesnt do anything and if I try to start a full population it sys

Warning: Request to start a full-text index population on table or indexed view 'support' is ignored because a population is currently active for this table or indexed view.

(I moved your topic to the SQL Server Express Forum)

Does stopping and restarting the services fix it?

Tried optimize it with 'alter fulltext catalog'? If you want to populate it again, have to disable auto tracking first.
