| Janis writes "As much as I hate to admit this, I have created a very interesting problem with my SQL 7 database. Please forgive me as I am the SMS administrator and am a novice at SQL. A few weeks back I moved my SMS site server, along with SQL 7, to new hardware. The process was rather lengthy, but seemed to work alright up until I tried to apply a SQL7sp2 hotfix. As it turns out, I really wasn't running sp2. Here's what I did while moving the information to the new server. I believed that simply running sql70sp1i.exe directly into the \MSSQL7 directory would upgrade SQL to service pack 1. Then, I did the same thing with SQL7sp2i.exe, thinking I was upgrading to sp2.Upon learning that this did NOT upgrade my SQL7 installation, I attempted to run SP1 again, this time expanding the .exe into a folder and running the setup.bat file. Everything worked fine until the upgrade got to the .sql files. Error running sp1.sql is where I get stuck. It retries a couple times and then quits with an error about the upgrade. Now, to make matters worse, I tried to recreate the problem in my test lab and found that if I apply sp2 overtop the \MSSQL7 directory that it will indeed install correctly. So, early this morning I tried replicating that on my production server only to be stuck in the same error message.Aside from reinstalling SQL7, is there any other way around this error? Is there something in the registry that I can remove that will not try to continue the last service pack upgrade that was started a few days ago? If I reinstall SQL7,then I'll have to reinstall SMS and that's not a viable option at this time.I was wondering if installing sp3 might remedy my obvious blunder, but I need to know if there is a setting in the registry remembering the partial installation of sp1 which has yet to complete.I started this question unaware of the events unfolding in New York and Washington. Now, as I complete my inquiry I realize just how insignificant this problem is at this point. Thank you for any help and assistance you can offer and for your time as well.Janis KeimSMS AdministratorSQL idiot" |
