Sometimes a user name will change in Active Directory and I have to change the name in SQL Server as well. So what I do is first delete the old user name from SQL Server's logins. However I wont be able to see the new user name in SQL Server to add it as a legit user until I roboot the server. Is there somekind of code I can execute to resynchronize with Active Directory again?

You don't need to change the name inside SQL Server as it's all based on the sid.

For instance, before I got married, my userid was tduggan. I then took my husband's last name as mine and now my useird is tkizer. I've got some old SQL Servers that still show tduggan and I have no issue logging into them as it's the sid that matters. tkizer == tduggan due to the sid.

Thanks for the repply. The problem, is that we have applications that have dropdown boxes that are populated with SQL Server Windows Logins, and these need to reflect the most current info because the user doesn't like her old("divorced") last name.

Saw the issue before, usually os related. Means server has problem to communicate with domain controller.

Yes, I think it is OS related as well. Is there a service I need to restart in windows? If I find the service I need to restart, and I restart it, what impact will it have on the SQL Server?

Don't think so.
